Burton, Gators’ bitten by Tigers
The Florida Gators suffered their second consecutive loss, both to top five teams. Without senior starting quarterback John Brantley, Trey Burton was calling the plays along with true freshman Jacoby Brissett. Not much passing went on during the game. But what do you expect from a freshman who has never taken a snap in his collegiate career so far? Or Burton who actually hasn’t played quarterback since his high school days besides a little his freshman year at UF.
The LSU Tigers defense was outstanding throughout the whole game. LSU held Burton to 7 rushing yards, six yards through the air on one completion and three receptions for 14 yards. You haven’t seen much of Burton this year at all. But you got to look at the new spots that are filled, new offense and coaches.
Burton and the unranked Gators are set to take on the Auburn Tigers this Saturday at 7pm.
Burton to return for UAB game
Florida Gator sophomore tight end Trey Burton is expected to return for the UAB game this Saturday after suffering from a injury early in the game of the 41-3 win against Florida Atlantic this past weekend.
Burton had gone back to the locker room and returned to the sidelines a couple times but about the second half he was without shoulder pads and was in shorts. No need to force anything or make the injury worse so sitting Burton out was the smartest move on the coaches part.
Head coach Will Muschamp said that Burton suffered from a bruise on his upper left side of his body.
Burton caught one pass for 11 yards before suffering from the injury.
The Gators are back in action in the Swamp on Saturday night at 7pm.
Meet Hillary Burton
Trey Burton; “Appreciate ya coach”
The breaking news going around right now is that Urban Meyer has resigned as Florida head coach. Meyer will coach the Gators through the Outback Bowl on News Years day against Penn State.
The Urban Meyer press conference will be held tonight starting at 6pm eastern.
Freshman Trey Burton had a few words to say on his status;
“Appreciate ya coach” – Trey Burton
Burton calling a “Blue Out” vs South Carolina
Trey Burton has been spreading the word to Gator Nation that there will be a blue out Saturday night in the Swamp as they take on Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
According to Trey’s facebook status-
“Blue Out In The Swamp Saturday Night!! Uh Ohh Place Is Gonna Be Cwazzy! Can’t Wait”
So everybody who is attending the game Saturday night…. WEAR BLUE!
No. 22 Gators vs No. 23 Gamecocks, 7:15pm.
Trey Burton does it all for Gators as the “slashback”
When CBS presented the starting lineups for the Florida-Georgia game Saturday, true freshman was listed as the “slashback.”
And while the term “slash” probably applies to Burton seeing time at quarterback, tailback, and wide receiver, it took on a whole new meaning against the Bulldogs.
Burton slashed through the Georgia defense in Jacksonville Saturday, leading the Gators with 110 rushing yards on 17 carries and racking up an additional 26 yards passing and 35 yards receiving.
Despite Florida’s Struggles, Trey Burton Continues to Impress
Since he burst onto the scene with a six-touchdown performance against the Kentucky Wildcats, Trey Burton has become a big part of Urban Meyer’s offense.
The true freshman has seen playing time at quarterback, running back, and wide receiver and is currently averaging 7.3 yards per touch along with nine total touchdowns for the Florida Gators.
Burton is a special player and Meyer knows it.
“[Burton's talent is] rare–matter of fact, does not exist,” Meyer told Jason Leiser of The Palm Beach Post. “Somehow, we just hit a home run on that one.”
However, despite Burton’s contributions, the Gator offense has been far from a home run this season and Florida’s record has shown it.
The Gators have only scored three offensive touchdowns in the past three weeks, leading to three consecutive losses for Florida for the first time since 1988.
And in order to end that losing streak, Meyer and offensive coordinator Steve Addazio desperately need to overhaul the offense.
However, no matter how many changes they make, Meyer and Addazio should continue to get the ball to Burton.
Whether they decide to make Burton the starting quarterback or simply just add a few more plays designed around him per game, Florida needs to find a way to get the ball in their most talented freshman’s hands.
Despite their recent woes, the Gators still control their destiny in the SEC East race and if they want to keep their hopes of reaching Atlanta alive, then Burton should continue to have a prominent role in the offensive game plan.

Nice run by Burton on NCAA 11
Here is a short video I would like to share of Trey Burton diving into the end zone for a touchdown against Mississippi State on NCAA Football 11. I love using Burton to scramble around the outside and just look for an open man up the field… EASY first down. On the goal line Trey runs around the corner and makes a nice leaping touchdown play. Trey finished up with 337 passing yards and two touchdowns for the Florida Gators and got player of the game. Check it out:
Burton talks about the jump pass
Here is a short clip of an interview of Trey Burton talking about what went wrong on the jump pass on 4th and goal. If that weak side linebacker for Alabama haven’t of stepped over, then there was a good chance that the pass would of been caught for a touchdown. But I don’t think the play should of been called that early anyways.
Burtons’ post-game stats vs Alabama
Trey Burton and the Florida Gators were in the game…. Well for the first couple of drives that is. After holding the Crimson Tide to a field goal, the Gators answered back by producing a nice little drive that brought them down to the goal line. Burton thought he found the end zone on a rushing attempt but after being reviewed upstairs the play stood with the ball at the 1 yard line. Then there was a questionable play that was called….. A Tim Tebow aka Burton “jump pass” that was intercepted… on FOURTH DOWN. Meyer should of sent out the special teams unit but you know if the jump pass was successful then everybody would be like, “Oh WOW! GREAT play call!”. But realistically I believe he should of sent Henry out for the chip shot. Looking at the final score, yeah it would of made no difference but who knows… Momentum works in odd ways.
Trey responded to the Gators loss on his status on facebook;
“Never fun to lose … Matter of fact I hate losing … But we will get right I promise! So thankful for my family friends and teammates! Also thankful for my Lord Jesus Christ for giving me the opportunity to play this game I luv! God Is Good”
Below are Trey Burton’s post game stats.
Passing: 0/1 0 yards 1 INT.
Rushing: 4 carries 5 yards.
Receiving: 4 receptions 33 yards.
